Dr. Anna Verbytska

Dr. Anna Verbytska is a Ukrainian visiting scholar in the Department of Music, Media and Speech Studies at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Her current research focuses on distress narratives in media discourse during the full-scale Russia and Ukraine war 2022.

Anna obtained B.A. and M.A. with a specialization in English Language and Literature at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University in 2011 and 2012. She conducted her PhD studies in the field of Germanic Languages at the Faculty of Foreign Philology at this very university in 2014-2017 and was then awarded the PhD degree of Candidate of Philological Sciences by the V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in Kharkiv in December 2018. Anna’s PhD thesis project explored cognitive and communicative aspects of the concept DISTRESS in English media discourse.
